EARTH SCIENCE WEEK POETRY AND ARTWORK CONTEST
Since 1998, scientists have celebrated Earth Science week. This time is used to educate the public about the earth sciences and to equip them with appreciation, understanding, and stewardship. For this 20th celebration of Earth Science Week, the American Geosciences Institute has declared the theme to be “Earth as Inspiration,” and is emphasizing artistic expression as a powerful tool for geoscience education.
In honor of the 20th celebration of Earth Science Week (as well as McWane’s 20th anniversary of sparking wonder and curiosity about the world), McWane encourages students to explore their relationship and responsibilities to the Earth through poetry and artwork. McWane will accept poetry and art entries through October 1st, 2018; winners will be notified by October 20th, 2018, and their work will be displayed in the center to serve as inspiration to visitors of all ages. The form below must be turned in along with the contest entry.

Keeping in mind the 2018 Earth Science Week theme of “Earth as Inspiration,” submit an original poem or painting inspired by humankind’s relationship and responsibilities to the planet. We are looking for works that are inspired by geoscience and will spark curiosity, conversation, and conservation in the lives of readers and viewers.
